Don Artamas
Contemporary Abstract Artist
Landscapes of the Mind
Contemporary abstract artist Don Artamas takes a spiritual and transformative approach to painting, capturing a glimpse of the soul in his sweeping, minimalist works. Worked mainly in shades of grey with occasional touches of color, Artamas' art is filled with an emotional and atmospheric depth that is at once fierce and serene, like the quiet fury of an ocean as the storm passes on. These large scale paintings are done in acrylics on canvas, the rich colors complementing and enhancing the visual force of the forms. The artist's bold use of rough, broad brushstrokes, meandering drips and smooth expanses gives the works an intriguingly varied tactile quality that seems to reach out into the world beyond the surface of the pieces. Drawing stylistic inspiration from Mark Rothko's graphic color studies, Artamas maintains a subdued palette of limited hues and rich texture.
Don Artamas exhibits internationally as a professional artist. Having grown up with an international upbringing, he is currently based in Indiana, U.S.A..
