International upbringing . . .
Don Artamas is a Contemporary Abstract Artist, with an international upbringing, he is currently based in Indiana, USA and his works has been exhibited in various museums and galleries in Southeast Asia and USA. A student of the arts at an early age, Don Artamas has been painting professionally since 80's. He does not limit himself by a particular style . . . he is a versatile artist who is inventive, searching and daring. His works are interesting and enlighthening characterized distinctively by spontaneity, impulse, depth, improvisation and chance. At times his works are lyrical like musical overtures, with linear gestures of movement and texture.
He does not paint by imitation but as an artist, Don Artamas believes that "it is in the process of art that art unfolds itself." His artworks are unplanned and he is not concerned of the outcome. He seldom uses a brush but utilizes anything his hands can take hold of. He takes a lot of risks to capture the "inspiration for the moment" becoming deeply involved in the creative process till it becomes a spiritual quest in itself. Don Artamas values expressing the truth in his art sincerely and honestly making each of his artwork worthy to be collected and treasured.
Each painting of Don Artamas is a distillate after a searing process; a destination after a tortuous, feverish journey. it soothes the vexed spirit, with its sophisticated blend: - the deafening clamor of unbridled fervor - employing technique and style seemingly acquired thru the years from a school where the freedom lessons are taught in whispers and spoken only in the language of the soul; yet on the contrary, Don Artamas' work is focused and disciplined - and utterly graceful!
Integration of faith and art . . .
"I have learned a lot of lessons in life. . . lessons that are essential to one's growth as an artist. But learning to integrate my faith with my art is one of the most important lessons I've learned! I am amazed, humbled and overwhelmed that God has given the incredible privilege of sharing my artistic journey with you far beyond I ever expected. It has truly been an amazing journey so far . . . and the best is still yet to be! I will always be thankful to the Lord of the journey, my "Unseen Mentor" who by His grace and love has carried me across a greater distance than I ever imagined." Don Artamas' artworks reflect his character: the robust faith and deep spiritual beliefs, good sense of humor, the stoutness of soul, the total but amiable independence of mind, the tireless, unfevered seeking for new and better ways to express his art.
Humble beginnings . . .
Don Artamas sometimes had the uncanny feeling that art came to him in spite of himself, and there was nothing he can do to stop it. . . At such emotional moments of clarity, Don Artamas continued to pursue his passion for the arts. He continually mounted solo exhibits in different museums and galleries in the Philippines and group shows in other Asian countries.
In 2006, Don Artamas moved to the U.S.A. to go full time in the arts. He took further art studies at the Indiana Wesleyan University evolving into a much better Contemporary Abstract Artist. He presently lives in Indiana with his wife Yvonne Marie and two children namely Quince and Ted.
From painting to other artforms . . .
Artamas passion for the arts has gone a long way, after Ayala Museum in the Philippines launched his first solo exhibit in the '90's. His works represent innovative and artistic currents shaping the modern contemporary art in the global sphere. Original works by Don Artamas can be found in numerous private and corporate art collections internationally in Asia, New Zealand, Sweden, Australia, Canada, California, Chicago, New York and other states of America. Besides painting Artamas loves to do modern sculptures, monotypes, ceramics, photography, poetry and graphic arts.
